This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month we will be celebrating a cross-section of Union’s AAPI alums. Today we honor Dr. Ichiro Nakata, ’74, a scholar, professor, translator, and administrator. Throughout his career, he has been committed to progressive, pacifist, Christian witness on the Japanese cultural and political scene. His research provides insights and reflections on the distinctive existential concerns of women in the ancient world. A renowned author, his work includes a commentary and translation of the Code of Hammurabi into Japanese. In 2019, Dr. Nakata was a recipient of Union’s Unitas Distinguished Alumni/ae Award.
