This Black History Month, we will be honoring a cross-section of Union's Black alums and faculty. Today we honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Olivia P Stokes '52, a trailblazer, professor, civil rights activist, and Director of the Department of Religious Education of the Massachusetts Council of Churches. As the first African American woman to receive a doctorate in religious education, she dedicated herself to empowering marginalized communities, with a focus on the needs of working-class families.
