This Black History Month, we will be honoring a cross-section of Union's Black alums and faculty. Today, we honor the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon '83, who became the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. from Union, where she developed and deepened the transformative approach to Christian womanist ethics that would define her career and ministry. She was also the first African-American woman ordained in the @pcusa. Over her lifetime, she would serve on the faculties of @templeuniv, Episcopal Divinity School, @harvarddivinity, and @upseminary, where she helped found the Center for Womanist Leadership (which now bears her name). #utsblackhistory
