This Black History Month, we will be honoring a cross-section of Union's Black alums and faculty. Today, we honor the Very Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas '82, '88. She is both the Dean of the @edsatunion and the Bill and Judith Moyers Chair in Theology at Union. Dean Douglas is the first African-American woman to head a seminary affiliated with the Episcopal Church. In addition, she is the Canon Theologian at the @wncathedral, the Theologian in Residence at @trinitywallst, and a prominent womanist theologian. She has been a pioneering and highly sought-after voice in regard to addressing sexual issues in relation to the black religious community. Her groundbreaking and widely taught book Sexuality and the Black Church: A Womanist Perspective (1999) was the first to address the issue of homophobia within the black church community.
