Today we honor the Rev. Dr. James H. Cone, the Bill & Judith Moyers Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology. Dr. Cone, considered the founder of Black liberation theology, taught at Union for nearly fifty years. A profoundly influential writer, educator, and activist, he spoke out against white Christianity that promoted white supremacy and racial terror, and advocated for a Christian ethics that aligned itself with the original intent of liberation. Dr. Cone's books include "Black Theology and Black Power," "A Black Theology of Liberation," and "The Cross and the Lynching Tree," which won the 2018 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. #utsblackhistory
