An Update on Convocation Ask Teachers: Wisdom, Lessons & Insights on Teaching Today Announcing Will Trevor, TC’s new Director of…

Dear Members of the TC Community,Earlier today, Columbia University President Minouche Shafik announced that Columbia has made the decision to host smaller-scale, school-level commencement ceremonies this year. President Shafik noted that this decision was made based on feedback and in order to focus on keeping the school ceremonies safe, respectful, and running smoothly.  For the many TC students who were looking forward to participating in the formal May 15 Columbia commencement ceremony, this may be disappointing. However, we are all committed to giving our students the celebration they deserve. Teachers College’s Convocation ceremonies will be moving forward as planned, in-person, at United Palace Theater on May 14 and May 15. Guidelines, house rules, and policies for the ceremonies will be emailed to all registered attendees this week and should be forwarded to all guests to ensure a smooth, joyous celebration. The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, family and guests are of utmost importance.Graduation is a time to honor the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our students. It is as much a time for celebration as it is for reflection. We are looking forward to our ceremonies as a time to come together as a community to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates with their families and friends.  Again, guidelines and details regarding TC’s Convocation will be emailed in the coming days and I look forward to celebrating with you.Thomas BaileyPresidentTeachers College, Columbia University
