#TBT On this Date in 1970: MSM presents “Salute to Jack Benny” at the Waldorf-Astoria “in recognition of his outstanding achievement in raising almost $5 million for symphony orchestras throughout the U.S.” The program features the School’s Orchestra, conducted by Anton Coppola, and Morton Gould is commissioned to write Bouquet for Benny with Michael Rabin as violin soloist. Dick Cavett is master of ceremonies with guest appearances by George Burns, Johnny Carson, Burt Lancaster, Robert Merrill, and Roberta Peters.
