On July 15, City of Water Day (a day highlighting community efforts to address climate change’s effects on NYC’s coastline and inland bodies of water), @NYCParks and Columbia announced a research partnership with @NYCMorningside Park.
Scientists from @ColumbiaClimate School will join a study to improve the city’s lakes and ponds, like Morningside Park Pond, plagued by harmful algae blooms. Alongside the algae remediation work, @ColumbiaEngineering will aim to repair broken water pumps and restore a waterfall above the pond. Columbia’s @TeachersCollege will also work with local schools to create opportunities for students to engage and learn from the study.
