An important announcement from @Columbia: We are thrilled to share that Minouche Shafik, a leading economist and president of the @LondonSchoolOfEconomics, has been named the 20th president of Columbia University.
A thoughtful and creative leader, President-Designate Shafik has been at the center of efforts to address some of the world’s most complex and disruptive challenges. Throughout her career, she has served in senior roles at institutions across the globe including the @WorldBank, @The_IMF, and the Bank of England. An author of numerous articles and books, she challenges institutions and individuals to rethink how we can better support each other to thrive in her most recent work, “What We Owe Each Other: A New Social Contract.”
President-Designate Shafik is “the perfect candidate: a brilliant and able global leader, a community builder, and a preeminent economist who understands the academy and the world beyond it,” says Jonathan Lavine, chair of the Columbia Board of Trustees.
Shafik will be the first woman president to lead Columbia. She will succeed President Lee C. Bollinger, who will step down from his role after 21 years, on July 1, 2023.
