Are you interested in doing something about mass incarceration?  Do you think it’s time for you to get involved?  The Beyond the Bars Conference hosted by Center for Justice at Columbia University, is a great place to emerge yourself in the issue and the people who are sensitive to the cause.

The Beyond the Bars Conference is an annual student-driven interdisciplinary conference on mass incarceration held at Columbia University in March.  An annual event since 2010, the conference brings together students, faculty, activists, advocates, practitioners, those who have experienced and/or been impacted by incarceration, community members and more to connect, galvanize, and deepen the work of building justice and equity and ending mass incarceration. The mission of the Beyond the Bars conference is to widely disseminate the Center’s approach to center justice on prevention and healing through panel discussions, workshops, community building, and performance art.

Below is a video produced from the 2020 event.  At time mark 7:40 into the video there is an interesting segment from an exhibit called “Point of Triangulation”.  It is worth watching as it outlines part of the essence of the conference.
