Columbia University President Minouche Shafik will join Barnard President Laura Rosenbury, Teachers College President Tom Bailey, and local leaders to kick off the Great Broadway Sweep, a Climate Week partnership between the NYC Sanitation Foundation and We Love NYC to collect litter along the entire length of Broadway.
The Sanitation Foundation and We Love NYC have partnered up to lead nine morning cleanups over five days. The route begins with two cleanups taking place at the far ends of Manhattan – City Hall at the south and Inwood to the north – and working their ways towards each other. Each day the cleanup will progress closer towards Times Square and we’ll end with a massive cleanup and celebration in the heart of NYC.
Join Columbia at 10:00 am on September 20, when New York City Councilmember Shaun Abreu and Presidents Shafik, Rosenbury, and Bailey will lead a rally for community partners, neighbors, and volunteers at the University’s Manhattanville Campus (615 W 129th St.) to initiate the Morningside Heights and West Harlem portion of the effort to cleanup Broadway, the “World’s Most Famous Street.”
