Manhattan School of Music is one of the world’s premier music conservatories for classical music, jazz, and musical theatre. Founded in 1918, the school is dedicated to the personal, artistic, and intellectual development of each of its students, training them in both performance and composition. Students have the option to achieve bachelor of music, master of music, and doctor of musical arts degrees. Each of these programs are ‘real-world’ training experiences that only New York City can provide, often taught by Broadway performers, renowned classical artists, and successful jazz musicians. Located in the beautiful neighborhood of Morningside Heights, MSM has 22 classrooms, 130 practice rooms, and 8 performance spaces. Photo tours of the gorgeous campus are offered here: https://www.msmnyc.edu/campus/photo-tour/
In addition to the diverse community of college students, who come from over 40 countries, the school is dedicated to community outreach, serving 500 New York-area students, ages 3-18, in the Preparatory Division, and another 2,000 New York City schoolchildren through its arts-in-education program. Under the leadership of Marta Istomin, president since 1992, Manhattan School of Music also employs a superb artist-teacher faculty of 250 professional musicians, and is also an active presenter of more than 400 public performances. The school’s 2022 season (as well as an entire library of past performance livestreams) can be accessed here: https://www.msmnyc.edu/msm-performances/
Manhattan School of Music’s more than 10,000 alumni are active in every aspect of American musical life, and many are among the most distinguished artists performing in opera houses and concert halls and on jazz stages throughout the world today.
