We send warm wishes to our TC community for Juneteenth, which the College and nation will observe as a federal holiday tomorrow.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, commemorates the freeing of enslaved people in the United States on June 19, 1865 in Texas — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863.
A time of joy in the celebration of freedom, it is also a holiday of remembrance, reflection and an opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to educating and advocating for an anti-racist, equitable society.
We hope that you can take time to learn more about Juneteenth through a variety of educational or commemorative activities taking place across NYC.
We look forward to celebrating together with many of you on Thursday at the TC’s annual Juneteenth Community Celebration, hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs.
