JTS Library Stories: The Huppah

The JTS Library houses one of the largest collections of rare Judaica in the world. This series will highlight some of these beautiful and unique works. This episode focuses on the evolution of the tradition of using a huppah, now known as a canopy over the wedding ceremony. Using examples of rare books from the JTS collection, Dr. David Kraemer, explores the history and transition of this beautiful tradition.

This is in conjunction with the JTS Library Exhibit, “To Build a New Home: Celebrating the Jewish Wedding” (May 18 – August 14, 2022).
