Local History: Celebrating and Reflecting on 10 Years of Admitting LGBTQ Rabbinical and Cantorial Students to JTS

Celebrating and Reflecting on 10 Years of Admitting LGBTQ Rabbinical and Cantorial Students to JTS

March 16, 2017, New York, NY

This Sunday, March 19th and Monday, March 20th, The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) will host a conference with the first openly gay JTS-ordained rabbis and other prominent LGBTQ Rabbis Gil Steinlauf, Benay Lappe, and Amichai Lau-Lavie to mark the 10-year anniversary of JTS admitting openly LGBTQ students to its rabbinical and cantorial schools.

The conference at JTS—one of preeminent institutions of Jewish higher education, training rabbis, cantors, educators, leaders, and scholars—will be an opportunity to reflect on the advancements towards equality for LGBTQ people since 2007, and discuss what action is still needed to spark more inclusion and fairer treatment within the community.
