Education and the Election

As Election Day draws near, TC’s Office of the President, TC Votes and the Office of Alumni & Community Engagement invite you to join us at Education and the Election@Teachers College on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 6pm ET via Zoom. The TC Community will learn how the upcoming Presidential Election will impact the most pressing issues in education today.

Education and the Election will feature a panel of discussants across the political spectrum. Joining us as moderator is Liz Willen (Editor-in-Chief, The Hechinger Report) as well as discussants Jonathan Gyurko (Co-Founder and President, The Association of College and University Educators) and Ian Rowe (Fellow, American Enterprise Institute).

We at Teachers College know education plays a crucial role in a democratic society. Don’t miss this chance to learn more about how education is on the ballot this fall. Submit your questions for the panel here. We hope you join us!

Liz Willen, a longtime education journalist, has led the award-winning Hechinger Report staff as editor in chief since 2011. A sought-after moderator of education conferences and events, Willen also writes the “From the Editor’s Desk” column and manages funder relations.

Dr. Jonathan Gyurko, Ph.D (’12) is a former official at the NYC Department of Education, the United Federation of Teachers, and DREAM Charter Schools Network where he served as board secretary. His new book is Publicization: How Public and Private Interests Can Reinvent Education for the Common Good. Gyurko currently serves as President and Co-founder of the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), which awards the only nationally-recognized college teaching certification.

Ian Rowe is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on education and upward mobility, family formation, and adoption. He is also the co-founder of Vertex Partnership Academies, a network of character-based International Baccalaureate high schools inaugurated in the Bronx in 2022.
