The Far Side of Revenge
The Far Side of Revenge: What Can the Church Do When Division Reigns?
The Dialogues on Divinity series seeks to address vital contemporary issues with a theological lens. It is presented by the Community at the Crossing, an ecumenical community for young adults, in residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The series is co-sponsored by Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII).
Sr. Estelle Sogbou and Dr. Aaron Hollander will offer interchurch, international, and intercultural perspectives on how faith and dialogue can address the urgent demands of our divided societies. In a time marked by oppression and inequality, this discussion will examine whether the ecumenical movement’s century-long pursuit of unity and reconciliation holds practical relevance beyond theological circles. Can ecumenical relationships be a model for justice and freedom beyond Christian circles? Together, our speakers will explore how Christian unity and liberation can illuminate pathways to greater reconciliation in the world.
Sr. Estelle Sogbou is a doctoral student in dogmatic theology at the Faculté Loyola in Paris, France, and a member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. She is currently in charge of the Theological Institute of Dombes, where she contributes to fostering theological dialogue and reflection.
Dr. Aaron Hollander is the Director of the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute and Editor of Ecumenical Trends, a leading publication on ecumenical and interfaith dialogue. He also serves as Adjunct Faculty in Theology at Fordham University, where he combines academic inquiry with a deep commitment to fostering reconciliation and collaboration across faith traditions.
Day-of student rush tickets will be available in person at the time of the event.
