
150 Year Tribute to Mary McLeod Bethune
Harlem Opera Theater will present a Tribute to Mary McLeod Bethune, Educator and Activist. She presided over a myriad of African American Women’s organizations, including the National Association of Colored Women and the National Youth. She started a private school for African American students which later became Bethune Cookman University. She was appointed as a National Advisor and worked with President Franklin D. Roosevelt to create the Federal Council on Negro Affairs. Classical artists on the program are Lynnesha Crump, Soprano, and Wayne Arthur, Baritone with Gregory Hopkins, Artistic Director on piano. The artists will present selections from opera and spirituals arrangements in Tribute to Mary McLeod Bethune. Tickets: $20.- $25. online: www.harlemoperatheater.org.
