Liberation! 80 Years Since the End of World War II in Italy
A conversation: David Forgacs (NYU) and Nadia Urbinati (Columbia) on Resistance, the new Constitution, women’s roles and their developing rights, and the politics of commemoration over the decades. They will talk about the German occupation and the collusion of some Italians. They will examine critically the idea of liberation—”liberation for whom?” They will address the notion of “three wars”: the struggle for liberation that ended in April 1945, and the longer-lasting civil war and class war.
Opening remarks
Barbara Faedda, Italian Academy, Columbia University
