Sounds at St Nick: The Gary Jones Quartet & Jazz Jam Session

Sounds at St. Nick, hosted and curated by renowned jazz vocalist Tyreek McDole, a free event takes place in St Nicholas Park, St Nicholas Avenue at the 135th Street Plaza and James Baldwin Lawn. The event is organized by Friends of St. Nicholas Park and Harlem One Stop with support from the West Harlem Development Corporation, and the NYC Parks and Recreation.

Sounds of Sr. Nick seeks to highlight emerging musicians of today who are building on the legacy of yesterday as they carry the sounds and spirit of the Harlem Renaissance forward.

Hang out with us, savor the sounds while you relax or picnic on the James Baldwin lawn with friends and family. No better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Sunday, June 8, 2025 – The Gary Jones Quartet

Gary Jones III bio:
Gary Jones III is an emerging drummer, composer and bandleader based in New York City. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Gary began his journey on the drums at the age of 4 with his musical roots developing from Gospel music. Gary attended the prestigious Cleveland School of the Arts high school. He is also an alumni of Cleveland’s very own Music Settlement (J@MS) program, Tri C JazzFest Academy and the influential Spirit of The Groove band led by Domminick Farinacci. At the age of 18 Gary performed with Terrance Blanchard at the Tri C Jazz Festival sparking a pivotal moment in his rising career.
Fast forwarding to today, Gary has completed his undergraduate in Jazz Studies/Composition at the New School. He has expanded vastly as an artist in the music scene. Gary is the drummer/percussionist for the Urban Bush Women Show (Scat!) which premiered at the Fisher Center in 2024. Gary has performed and collaborated with many notable musicians including Reggie Workman, William Parker, Sullivan Fortner, Or Bereket, Joel Ross, Marion Cowings, Emmanuel Michaels, Craig Handy, Cisco Swank, Iba Mahr, Aaron Goldberg, Buster Williams, Tyreek McDole, Neta Rannan, Kevin Oliver Jr, Stacy Dillard, Harish Raghavan, Aaron Parks, Jason Moran, Craig Harris and many more.
Gary plays all around NYC with his Quintet. Gary embodies a sonic creative individuality, bringing forth a fearless yet sincere contemporary sound. His mission is to provide nourishment to the community and bring people together through the power and love of music.
