
Historical Black Fashion Exposition
Tami Tyree- Founder and Artistic Director of Echoes of Our Ancestors African American History & Song invites you to a historical fashion exposition. Ms. Tyree: playwright/actress of the Off Broadway play COLORED SILK A Civil War Odyssey, continues her tribute to ELIZABETH KECKLEY with discussion on the significance of fashion in black culture with a nod to Madame Keckley’s fashion artistry and women’s19th century entrepreneurship. June 14 is the inaugural event of a series of art/music and fashion visuals, modeling, and discussion. Models are Valerie “Valstyle” Kirk and Historical Costumer Marisa Zimmerman, who will display 19th century ballroom fashion referencing Eliaabeth Keckley’s designs for First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. Marisa Zimmerman, Historical Costumer and photographer; is applauded in costuming and historical fashion circles; representing various style periods with apparel she designs, creates, and showcases locally and internationally; Rudi Mwongozi, piano.Guests are encouraged to wear special occasion attire and period pieces are welcome.
