
Harlem Renaissance 100. Then, Now. Forever. Swing Uptown: The Birthplace of the Lindy Hop
Join the community celebration of Harlem’s Legacy Dance-The Lindy Hop on Friday, July 18th at the State Office Building in Harlem featuring Norman Edwards Jr and the Excitement Band! Come early, bring your dance shoes and rock step with Samuel Coleman at the dance class at 5pm.
With this event we continue the multi-year celebration in honoring 100 years of the Harlem Renaissance as we shine a spotlight on the music, dance, and visual and performing arts that made Harlem a cultural beacon around the world. The celebration will pay tribute to legendary artists of the past and uplift the rising stars who carry the legacy forward.
On Friday, July 18th, we acknowledge and uplift a Harlem Renaissance torchbearer, Norman Edwards Jr., the next generation of talented musicians igniting the jazz scene.
About Norman Edwards Jr
Norman Paul Edwards Jr. is a professional drummer, percussionist and educator with Jazz @ Lincoln Center, and Manhattan School of Music. The two-time Grammy nominated artist currently leads his own groups, SpinKicK and The Xcitement Band. They are original bands showcasing his composition skills. SpinKicK is a fusion of Dance, Funk, Hip Hop and Jazz with feel good melodies. The
Xcitement Band has dancing moves and high energy swinging Jazz grooves.
He also runs Fighting In The Streets, a video game cover band with high energy showmanship! Norman specializes in Drum Set, Percussion, Vibes, Piano and Guitar. He brings the same skill and enthusiasm for each instrument. For more information, please visit:
