In the opening chapters of Ezekiel, the prophet sees God seated on a magnificent throne. God gives Ezekiel a mission to rebuke the people, and Ezekiel performs several bizarre prophetic acts. In nine live, online sessions, we will explore this fascinating section of Tanakh that has mystified readers through the ages. We will read the Hebrew text, focusing on the most difficult words and exploring multiple options for translation and interpretation. Participants are encouraged to create their own translations and research new topics about this singular section of Tanakh. Sessions will be recorded for use by registered participants.

Prerequisite: Completion of Biblical Hebrew I, II, and III. If you have not taken these courses but believe you have the equivalent background, please schedule a conversation with the instructor prior to enrollment.

Dr. David Zev Moster is the Director of Biblical Hebrew at JTS. He also directs the Institute of Biblical Culture, where he teaches Hebrew and creates video materials about ancient Israelite language and culture for the general public. He is the author of Etrog: How a Chinese Fruit Became a Jewish Symbol (2018). He received his PhD from Bar-Ilan University, an MA from New York University, and BA, MA, and MS degrees and rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University.
