
Black Theopraxis – Snakeology: God Comes to Empower, Not Control
Through the unique lens of a “Black Theopraxis” framework participants will examine the creation story, the fall, and salvation history with a focus on recovering, and reclaiming God’s divine intention. Participants will explore the theological tenets of creation, empowerment, and liberation, to advance a more impactful leadership model and praxis. Facilitated by Drs. John Kinney and Patricia Gould Champ, this conversation will challenge us and offer new insights for cutting edge ministry and contemporary faith practices.
Rev. Dr. John Kinneyis a distinguished seminary administrator, theologian, preacher, pastor, educator, and scholar with over four decades of ministry and leadership experience. Having served as a pastor, academic dean, and advocate for justice, Dr. Kinney is known for his deep commitment to faith, social justice, congregational leadership, and spiritual growth.
His leadership and advocacy work have helped shape conversations on race, justice, and faith within broader American society. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia and Virginia Union University of Theology in Richmond, Virginia, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary in New York.
Rev. Dr. Patricia Gould Champ is a respected pastor, scholar, and advocate with a passion for empowering communities through faith and service. With a strong background in pastoral leadership, and theological education, Dr. Gould Champ has dedicated her career to preaching, teaching, and advocating for equity and inclusion.
Dr. Gould-Champ holds advanced degrees in theology and ministry, and her academic background is complemented by years of hands-on pastoral leadership. She is deeply committed to empowering women and marginalized communities, particularly within the church, to assume leadership roles and use their voices for positive change.
