Book Talk: Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager, with Elissa L. Perry

Please join Elissa L. Perry, co-author with Carol T. Kulik of Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager (2nd edition, Routledge, 2023), for a discussion of their recent book which “gives every manager, regardless of their functional role, access to cutting-edge research and evidence-based recommendations so they can approach their people management responsibilities with confidence.” Elissa Perry will discuss topics including: reluctant managers and the importance of the manager-employee relationship; inclusive organizations and organizational climates; creating inclusive organizations; and a Manager’s Knot, a feature of each chapter in the book.

Elissa L. Perry is Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University whose scholarly interests include the role of demographic characteristics in human resource decision making, organizational behavior, and organizational outcomes; and the application of evidence-based approaches (training, leadership development) and systemic thinking to the practice of diversity management and the creation of inclusive workplaces. Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager is Professor Perry’s first book, and she also has contributed articles in leading journals to the field.

This book talk is of interest to managers and prospective managers in all work settings, and all are welcome to attend to better understand and address organizational culture, climate, and needs, while developing skills to work with and manage staff.
