Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the Hispanic Society Featuring films, concerts, workshops, and more!
Join us on Audubon Terrace for a month of exciting programming highlighting the richness and diversity of Hispanic cultural heritage.
The festivities kick off with the return of our annual film series Cine al Fresco, New York’s only free outdoor film series dedicated to Spanish and Latin American cinema, produced in collaboration with Inwood Art Works. Every Thursday in September enjoy a different cinematic classic under the stars with special pre-show live performances.
This year’s lineup includes:
Luis García Berlanga’s legendary comedy ¡Bienvenido, Mr. Marshall! (September 4th),
Sebastián Leilo’s Oscar-winning drama Una mujer fantástica (September 11th),
Marcel Camus’ rhythm-filled retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice Orfeu Negro (September 18th),
and Robert Rodriguez’ gritty neo-Western El Mariachi (September 25th).
The pre-show performances begin at 6pm, with the films starting at 7pm.
On October 16th, we will welcome the acclaimed Harlem Chamber Players to the Hispanic Society for a special performance featuring works by William Grant Still, Tania León, Gabriela Lena Frank, Heitor Villa Lobos, and Astor Piazzolla.
The Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations conclude on October 18th with our Día de los Muertos festivities presented in collaboration with Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders. Come by Audubon Terrace for an afternoon of fun for all ages, featuring artmaking, live music, face-painting and more!
All programs are offered free of charge, but RSVP is required. Click here for more information and to reserve your spot, and stay tuned for more information about other programming during Hispanic Heritage Month.
