Gardening Club in Fort Washington Park with Latino Outdoors NYC
Latino Outdoors is a Latine-led organization that supports a national community of leaders in outdoor recreation, conservation and environmental education. With an eye towards celebrating and expanding the Latine outdoor experience and bolstering the broader outdoor movement, we provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities and serve as a platform for amplifying oft-overlooked cultural connections and narratives. Latino Outdoors is a space for our comunidades to be present, share our voices, and showcase how an ethic of conservation and roots in nature have been deeply embedded in la cultura Latina for generations. The programmatic pillars of Latino Outdoors are: outdoor experiences, outdoor narratives, and outdoor leadership.
Join Riverside Park Gardener & Latino Outdoors Volunteer Leader, Stephanie Caban, the second Wednesday of every month to garden in Fort Washington Park!
Riverside Park stewards 6 miles of land along the west side of Manhattan, including the southern portion of this incredible park. Enjoy views of the Hudson and help us transform a garden area that currently needs a lot of love.
Participate in communal giving to the land as we remove stubborn brush and work towards creating a new landscape together. This work will be laborious–we’ll spend a few sessions removing introduced species with loppers and shovels, before mulching down the area to prepare for fall planting. We will be on our feet during most of the event.
All participants must be 18 years old or older, and beginners are welcome! Come in comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and be prepared to sweat, and all the gear needed will be provided!
Registration is required and free! Duplicate reservations and incomplete surveys will be returned automatically. This event is suitable for people 18 years and older.
