NYC Parks’ Urban Park Rangers Host Free Outdoors and Indoor Fun for Kids!
While New York City kids are out of school for winter break, NYC Parks will have plenty of fun activities to keep them busy! Join us for FREE “Kids Week” programming across the five boroughs with outdoor and indoor events led by our Urban Park Rangers, from Monday, December 23, 2024, through Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
A variety of activities will allow kids to experience nature in a hands-on and fun way! December’s Kids Week highlights include:
Brooklyn:
Bowling Green Cottage in Parade Ground
Monday, December 23, 2024, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Learn about winter birds in your neighborhood and what they like to eat. Build your very own bird feeder from recycled materials.
Queens:
Birding for Kids
Chapin Parkway and 85th Ave in Captain Tilly Park
Tuesday, December 24, 2024, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Let’s learn how to get an up-close look at birds without the need for wings! We will teach you ways to identify birds by sight and sounds.
Bronx:
Animal tracking Scat-venger Hunt
Crotona Park East and Charlotte Street- Crotona Nature Center
Thursday, December 26, 2024, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Join the Urban Park Rangers on an animal tracking scavenger hunt. Learn how to track animals using scat, footprints and other clues.
Manhattan:
Winter Nature Crafts for Kids

Campire Story Time for Kids–

Join the Urban Park Rangers for a cozy campfire and story telling session. Rangers will read books and use puppets paired with visual props. Dress warm and bring a blanket!
