Women Pioneers of Jazz: Saluting the great Valerie Capers
Pianist/composer/bandleader Valerie Capers first emerged in the 1960’s shortly after graduating from The Juilliard School. Her first album, Portrait in Should, was released in 1966. Education has always been a priority, and Ms. Capers played a large role at series of schools, including the Bronx Neighborhood Music School, the Brooklyn School of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music, ultimately being named as the Chair of Bronx Community College’s Music Department.
Please join us for an evening in conversation with Ms. Capers, as well as a performance by her Quartet.
