The Gerson D. Cohen Memorial Lecture offers contemporary insight of Conservative Judaism by renowned academics and spiritual leaders.

The annual memorial event was established in 1993, by the Honorable Howard M. Holtzmann, who served as honorary chairman of the JTS Board of Trustees.  The event honors Gerson D. Cohen, a historian, rabbi, educator, and leader of Conservative Judaism in the United States. Chancellor Cohen was especially noted for ordaining the first female rabbi in Conservative Judaism in 1985.  He was chancellor of JTS from 1972 to 1986.
