Religious institutions have changed extensively in recent decades- and so have their buildings. This course will develop, test and assess your relationship as a leader and stake holder, one who has some responsibility for stewarding a sacred site. Most Seminarians and many lay leaders wish someone had taught them how to be a plumber in a holy way. You will leave the course with a plan of how best to adapt your sacred context – its communities and its buildings – to its future, short and long term. You will learn how to be a holy businessperson and a business savvy spiritual person, capable of thinking anew about your sacred places and about sacred places in general.

Donna Schaper

An elderly person with gray hair smiles at the camera. They are wearing a red hat, large glasses, and a red shirt, with a neutral-colored background behind them. The Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper is Interim Minister at the United Congregational Church of Little Compton, Rhode Island and the author of 37 books, most recently I heart Frances: Love letters from an unlikely Admirer. Rev. Schaper is a Corporate Chaplain, Silver Linings Chaplain; Associate Professor in Chaplaincy, Hartford International University for Religion and Peace. She is a rewired United Church of Christ and American Baptist Parish Pastor, last fully employed as Senior Minister at Judson Memorial Church in New York City. Currently, she works as a consultant for Bricks and Mortals, repurposing religious sites; teaching chaplaincy at HIU, being a part time corporate chaplain for Silver Linings, an international fully virtual company that helps small businesses do great business. I am fascinated by the field of chaplaincy and its multiple innovations on the edge of religion. Her latest book is Marriage Outside your Tradition: A Practical and Spiritual Guide. Previously, she wrote REMOVETHEPEWS.com from your buildings and your theology. Yup, she is rewired into new energy sources.
