Film Screening: Jazz on a Summer’s Day

Join us for a special “Music Monday” meets “Films at The Forum” summer event with a screening of the 1959 documentary film Jazz on a Summer’s Day.

Filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island and directed by world-renowned photographer Bert Stern, Jazz on a Summer’s Day features intimate performances by an all-star line-up of musical legends including Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Anita O’Day, Chuck Berry, Dinah Washington, and closes with a beautiful rendition of The Lord’s Prayer by Mahalia Jackson at midnight to usher in Sunday morning. The film has been beautifully and extensively restored in 4K from the best surviving vault elements by IndieCollect.

Music Monday is a free monthly concert series hosted by The Forum in our ground-floor Atrium. Our Films at The Forum program brings free movie screenings to The Forum throughout the year. This summer we’ve presented a special series of music-focused films including Summer of Soul, Wattstax, and now Jazz on a Summer’s Day.

Please register in advance. Seating is general admission. Walks-in will be accepted as capacity permits.
